Houston NeighborhoodsOver the years Houston has expanded into several suburban areas and now includes numerous neighborhoods. If you are considering relocating to the Houston area you may wish to learn more about some of the most popular neighborhoods in the Houston area. Midtown Houston allows residents to have easy access to downtown Houston without the need to actually live there. Most residents include empty nesters and young professionals who want to avoid the daily commute. Nearby restaurants and nightlife venues keep things interesting. The MetroRail provides easy access to the rest of Houston. If you want to remain close to downtown but not actually live in the hustle and bustle of the downtown area, Midtown is an excellent compromise. River Oaks is considered to be the most exclusive and prestigious neighborhood within the city. Centrally located, River Oaks is absolutely beautiful. Be aware that River Oaks does have some of the most strict community deed restrictions in the entire city. Most home prices in the area begin at over $400,000 and go up to the $10 million mark. If you drive through the area you will not see any For Sale signs as they are prohibited by deed restrictions. Upscale quaint restaurants and exclusive boutiques are among the nearby amenities enjoyed by River Oaks residents. The neighborhood that has grown up around the Texas Medical Center provides easy living for those employed in the medical field as well as medical students. Most residents in the area own condos and town homes or live in apartments. Prices begin at around the $185,000 mark and go up to well past the half a million dollar mark. There are some single family homes in the area, many of which are geared toward medical students and health care professionals. West University Place has recently become one of the most highly demanded and poplar neighborhoods in Houston. Homes have recently become quite hard to come back in West University Place. In the past, much of the area was consumed by small cottages; however, that has changed in the last few years. Most homes in the area are large two story houses; many of which are of the popular Georgian style. One of the reasons this neighborhood is so popular is that it is centrally located and provides easy access to Houston's business district as well as shopping districts including Rice Village. Rice Military is an attractive neighborhood that provides convenience for those who wish to live inside the inner loop. Rice Military is mostly populated by young professionals. Recently there has been an increase in new construction homes in the area. The ample nightlife and easy proximity to downtown has made this area quite popular. Low property tax rates have also become quite appealing to empty nesters as well. |
