Houston Annual Events

While there is certainly no shortage of annual events offered throughout Houston, without a doubt one of the biggest and most popular events is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This rodeo and livestock show has served as a tradition in Houston for 75 years. Thousands of participants enter the livestock portion of the show each year while more than a million spectators attend the show. Live entertainment abounds at the show and usually includes some of the most popular names in popular music. A variety of events is included in the show in addition to the rodeo, livestock show and horse competition. These events include a petting zoo, carnival, barbecue cookoff and much more.

The Chevron Marathon and Aramco Half Marathon is held in mid January each year, drawing a quarter of a million spectators to the 26.2 mile marathon that begins as well as ends in downtown.

The Annual Buffalo Bayou Regatta has been part of the Houston scene for 35 years. Participants can join a canoe race and battle it out to see who is truly the best in Texas when it comes to paddling.

The HEB Houston Children's Festivals offers fun for the entire family in early April. Events include weiner dog races, music, family adventure zones, clown schools and oversized muppets.

The International Festival, held in mid to late April, honors China with arts and crafts as well as food and world renowned musicians.

The entire family can get out and enjoy themselves at the Family Day and Anything that Floats Parade. This event really needs no more description as participants can picnic and enjoy the wacky structures that are sent sailing down the Buffalo Bayou.

Freedom Over Texas highlights the birthday of the nation on the Fourth of July with a concert and fireworks show.

Theater District Open House is an appealing family favorite offering previews of the upcoming season from arts companies. Admission is free for the open house.

The Bayou City Art Festival is an arts festival dedicated to both serious collectors as well as those who just simply want to browse. Activities, music and food are included in the event, which is a popular favorite.
