Kennedy was assassinated on his visit to the city on November 22, 1963. The shooting occurred while the President rode in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza en route to the Dallas Trade Mart. Shortly after the Motorcade turned onto Elm Street just after noon shots were fired and the president was killed. Just minutes from Dallas, the Arboretum is easily accessible from many locations throughout the city. During the spring the Arboretum is in full bloom with more than 2,000 azalea plants in their stunning glory. The Dallas World Aquarium is a 22,000 gallon tunnel that features a panoramic view of the extensive marine and reef life that make their home here. The Dallas Museum of Art was first established in 1903 and since that time has housed an impressive and prestigious collection of art exhibits that range from Ancient Mediterranean to Contemporary pieces. The Galleria is by far the most popular shopping mall in the DFW area. With world class shops, the Galleria is often a must stop for visitors to the city. If you want to investigate alternant theories to President Kennedy's assassination you need look no further than the Conspiracy Museum. The museum offers a host of the many different theories that seek to explain the assassination. The Freedman's Memorial stands in testimony to the strength and courage of freed slaves. The area on which the memorial is constructed was once a burial ground for freed slaves before it was practically obliterated with the construction of the Interstate. Today the memorial pays honor to those who are buried there. |
