One of America’s best kept secrets is located in the north west corner of the state of Oregon. The city of Portland is consistently one of the highest ranked and most popular places to live in the country, and all it takes is one visit to the Rose City to understand why. The city does receive a bit more rain than most places, but this extra rain only leaves the city green and beautiful throughout the year. The people here take the weather in stride and umbrellas become a fashion accessory that everyone can wear. Portland also prides itself on being one of the most accepting and liberal cities in the country, which means the city has a large population of artists, hippies and gay and lesbian folks. Wages in Portland are also much higher than the national average; another reason to fall in love with this beautiful city.

There are plenty of things to do in Portland, and a surprising number of them involve the outside world. The rainy season in Portland is usually during the winter months. While the rest of the country may be getting snow and ice, it will likely be drizzling in Portland, but in the spring, summer and early fall, the weather here is perfect. Nothing in the world beats a beautiful summer’s day in Portland. The spring, summer and fall here is filled with fairs, festivals and events that celebrate how green and verdant the city is and residents show up en masse to enjoy it. The city also has more than its fair share of theatres, both old and new. On any given night, you can find upwards of a dozen different shows going on around town. Portland also has a huge number of parks compared to other cities its size. Even with an umbrella in hand, a stroll through one of these parks is a wonderful way to spend some time.

One of the best aspects of Portland is the live and let live attitudes of the people here. While there will always be someone, somewhere trying to tell you how to live your life, by and large, the majority of people here come from a more liberal approach to life and believe that as long as you aren’t harming others, you should be able to live your life as you see fit. It isn’t completely accurate to say it is a hippie mentality, but more of a peaceful and happy approach to life, instead of a fire and brimstone one.

If you are in the market for a studio Portland apartment, you can expect to pay $450-$600 per month. A one bedroom Portland apartment will generally cost you $650-$800, while a two bedroom Portland apartment will go for $800-$1100. If you need the extra space, a three bedroom or larger Portland apartment will cost you $1000 minimum to start.
