When most people think of the Twin Cities, they remember Minneapolis, but often forget the other one. It isn’t surprising when you consider that the smaller city, St. Paul, often gets ignored. If Minneapolis is more like a big, Midwestern city, than St. Paul is like the much smaller town next door. Together, they form one of the best places to call home in the country. Founded in the early 1800’s, the city, like so many spots on the Mississippi, was nothing more than a distant trading outpost that wasn’t much more than a speck on the map. As settlers pushed west and the Mississippi became more and more important, St. Paul and Minneapolis grew in importance. Today, the Twin Cities metro area is home to almost three million people, most of whom wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Renting out a St. Paul apartment is a great way to get to know this fascinating city.
There are plenty of fun things to do in St. Paul and Minneapolis year round. The biggest natural feature here is, of course, the river. While the Twin Cities do not mark the origin of the great Mississippi, the source waters aren’t that far away, and it is amazing to think that the water that flows through the downtowns of both St. Paul and Minneapolis will still be going months from now as they flow past the French Quarter in New Orleans and out into the Gulf of Mexico. If it is wintertime in St. Paul, that means one thing: hockey! In Minnesota, hockey is next to religion on the scale of importance, and St. Paul is home to the cities NHL team: The Minnesota Wild. Other pro teams in the area all play in Minneapolis.
While the kindness of Minnesota residents has been played up for laughs in movies like Fargo and on television shows like The Golden Girls, for those that haven’t experienced a little Minnesota Nice, it can be an odd experience. Here, strangers will greet you with a smile and a handshake, doors in malls and public buildings are held so you don’t have to open them yourselves. People say excuse me when you almost bump into them. At first, it can lead to a feeling that it is all a put on, but the kindness of St. Paul residents is genuine. It is enough to get folks to move here all by itself.
If you are in the market for a studio St. Paul apartment, you can expect to pay $525-$650 per month. A larger one bedroom St. Paul apartment will generally cost you $650 a month, while a two bedroom St. Paul apartment will cost you $850. If you need a super sized St. Paul apartment, you can expect to pay $1050 per month. |
