The city of Minneapolis has achieved something that many people once thought to be impossible: it is the perfect combination of small Midwestern town and big city, all in one. It is a very modern place that boasts all four major sports, legendary live music and cultural venues and an incredibly liberal and welcoming environment with small town values such as complete strangers smiling and saying hello on the street and holding doors for each other in public buildings. The friendliness of the average Minneapolis resident can even be unnerving to some visitors, leading a few of the most skeptical to start looking for the Candid Cameras. But the kind and helpful demeanor here isn’t a put on, it is as authentic as the cold winters, the warm smiles and the wondrousness of living in one of Americas most remarkable cities.
There are many things to do in this great town, although you might need a winter coat to do most of them during the winter months. As bad as the winters here can get, there might not be a more beautiful spot in the world to spend summertime. The city is lined with bike and hiking trails and the mighty Mississippi is still a force to be reckoned with as it flows through the center of the city. All four major sports are present in the Twin Cities metro area. The NBA Timberwolves, the MLB Twins and the NFL Vikings call Minneapolis home, while the NHL’s Wild prefer to nest in St. Paul. Some people divide up the Twin Cities as Minneapolis being the city and St. Paul being the oversized small town. While this oversimplification is right on some levels, there is still the beating heart of a small town at the center of Minneapolis, too.
As someone who once proudly called Minneapolis home, it can be tough to pick out one favorite quality, but it would have to be the people. Movies have been made depicting the jovial and friendly nature of native Minnesotans, and in the case of The Golden Girls, the vapid nature of some of its residents, but I can assure you that the people here are the friendliest you’ll find anywhere in the world. Gay and lesbian couples can walk the streets here without worrying about their safety and it is common to have strangers go out of their way to help you. It is all a part of living in this wonderful place.
If you’re looking for a first class Minneapolis apartment, you can expect to pay between $550-$700 for a studio. If you’re in the market for a one bedroom Minneapolis apartment, you can expect to pay $700-$900 depending on the space and location. An even larger two bedroom Minneapolis apartment will generally go for $1000-$1250 and a super sized Minneapolis apartment will cost you $1300 or more per month. |
