When your job calls on you to live in the Philadelphia-Baltimore-Washington D.C. area, it can be almost impossible to find affordable housing. But thanks to cities like Columbia, Maryland, finding a Columbia apartment is easy. The city of Columbia was founded in 1967, the city of Columbia was brought to life to help ease overcrowding in area communities and help to foster a feeling of a small town in the shadow of nearby giants. The current population of Columbia is right around 100,000 with further growth watched very closely by the city counsel. The hope is to keep the size of Columbia under control and to avoid urban sprawl at all costs.

Since Columbia, Maryland was basically founded to be a bedroom community servicing both Washington, DC and Baltimore, there isn’t a lot of culture or attractions within Columbia itself. One of the few attractions is the massive Mall in Columbia, which provides a wide array of shopping and bargains for those looking to shop close to home. The real pleasure in living in Columbia comes from the fact that you can easily commute to and from nearby Baltimore and Washington, D.C. with almost no hassle. There is easy highway access for those looking to drive into the cities every day and there is also nearby rail service just outside of the city that can be driven to and then taken into both Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

The city of Columbia was originally founded to give folks tired of commuting hours to and from work every day a real home community they could get involved with. Columbia has more than lived up to that moniker. While there is a wide selection of Columbia apartments, most of the residents here live in homes scattered throughout the town. The cost of living here is a bit higher than the national average, but it higher all over the mid-Atlantic region.

If you’re in the market for a small Columbia apartment, you can expect to pay a slightly higher price than the national average. A studio Columbia apartment can run upwards of $750-$900. If you’re looking for a one bedroom Columbia apartment, you can expect to pay $900-$1100. If you need a larger two bedroom Columbia apartment, you can expect to pay $1200-$1400. If you need an executive style Columbia apartment, you’ll be paying close to $1500 or more. Prices here are a little steep, but the Columbia area makes living here worth it!
