Topeka - A Great Place to Live
Established in 1857, Topeka is located in north east Kansas at the intersection of I-70 and US 75. It is the capital of the state of Kansas and has a population of 122,377. The name Topeka comes from a Kansas tribal name meaning “a good place to grow potatoes”. Topeka was laid out in 1854 by a group of eastern anti-slavery men after the Kansas-Nebraska Bill was passed, and was shortly thereafter chartered as a city.

Topeka is sometimes called the home of Pentecostalism, because it is the site of Charles Fox Parham’s Bethel Bible College. Be sure to visit many of the beautiful churches in the area, including the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka, which is one very few churches in the nation to have its sanctuary decorated with Tiffany stained glass. Other things to do in the city are visit the Topeka Zoo, which had the first Golden Eagle born into captivity, and visit the Combat Air Museum at Forbes Air Force Base.
