Perhaps no city in North America has spawned more love songs and more tributes than the Windy City of Chicago. The nation’s third largest city in terms of population, Chicago started as a trading post on Lake Michigan. The city was incorporated in 1833 and was one of the fastest growing cities in the world for the next century. What started out as a manufacturing and business center has blossomed into a major banking, finance and tourist mega city that is incredibly popular with current and former residents. And believe it or not, there are many Chicago apartment values still left in this great town, so if you’re thinking about moving there, you won’t have to break the bank.

To list all of the tourist attractions in a city like Chicago would take hours. They say you could pick one thing to do every day of the year and still hardly scratch the surface of all of the attractions in Chicago. Whether it is a lazy summer afternoon at Wrigley Field to see a Chicago Cubs game, or an afternoon of shopping on the Magnificent Mile, Chicago has more than enough things to do to keep anyone entertained. Chicago is also an arts, theatre and music capital, as well. The blues, jazz and R&B are alive and well in Chicago, but if your tastes run more towards classical and orchestral music, Chicago has that in spades. Chicago is a city that prides itself on being world class, and it is that pride that keeps so many Chicago apartment dwellers here for life.

While it is impossible to pinpoint the city’s most unique feature, the sheer amount of diversity here is what so many people find welcoming. It doesn’t matter what your favorite kind of food is, what sort of nightclub you enjoy visiting, what sport you enjoy watching or what kind of shopping you enjoy, Chicago has it. And amazingly, Chicago also has affordable housing. Any city of this size is going to have a bit of a sprawl problem, but when it comes to fining a Chicago apartment or a house, that sprawl allows you to be close to the action and still have enough money to pay rent.

Nailing down how much a Chicago apartment costs is almost impossible. The closer to downtown you are, the more it will be, but it is possible to find a studio unit in the greater Chicago area for $500 a month. One bedrooms range anywhere from $700-$5000 or more depending on the perks you’re looking for. A two bedroom will generally run you $900-$1000 with no real limit if you want an executive style residence.
