Idaho Falls - A Great Place to Live

Idaho Falls is located in eastern Idaho and has a population of 50,730. It is a part of the Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area and is a sister city to the town of Tokai-Mura, Japan. Idaho Falls was originally known as Taylor’s Crossing, after Matt Taylor, who built a toll bridge across the Snake River Gorge. In 1872, the town’s name was changed to Eagle Rock, and finally, in 1891, to Idaho Falls.

You can reach Idaho Falls by use of the Idaho Regional Airport. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy Idaho Falls’ many parks, recreation centers, and golf courses. Idaho Falls’ economy was mostly agriculturally focused until the Atomic Energy Commission opened a nuclear reactor testing site in a nearby desert. The city became dependent on high income jobs from the site, and when laboratory cutbacks were made, they were forced to establish more economy with call centers, a growing retail and entertainment district, and a regional medical center.
