No city in North America has grown with the gusto and with the sheer wealth that Atlanta has. So it is no wonder that areas that were once considered suburbs have taken on their own lift. One such city is Decatur, Georgia. Located just to the east of downtown Atlanta, the city of Decatur was founded in 1823 and it has been growing steadily ever since. With the meteoric rise of Atlanta as the cultural, financial and entertainment center of the southern United States, Decatur has grown in lock step with its bigger brother to the west and is now one of the most popular spots in the Atlanta metro region to call home. Housing here is cheaper than living in downtown, but is still above the national average.

The biggest attraction in Decatur is its location. You are so close to downtown Atlanta that the short commute is easy and so is the travel to Atlanta’s many attractions is even easier. If you’re a sports fan, you’ll love living in Decatur. You have the professional Atlanta Braves baseball team, the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team, the Atlanta Falcons football team and the Atlanta Hawks basketball team right in your back yard. If you’ve come to Decatur to seek a higher education, the Atlanta metro area is full of top rated schools like Georgia State University and Georgia Tech. Just down the road in Athens is the University of Georgia and many folks make that drive every day.

The best part about living in Decatur is that you get to enjoy everything the Atlanta metro area has to offer without having to pay downtown Atlanta rent prices. Atlanta is a wealthy city by anyone’s measurement, so even though you might be paying more for rent compared to other spots on the map, chances are, you’re earning more, too. Atlanta, and subsequently Decatur, is a spot that once you move to, you likely won’t be moving away from any time soon. People fall in love with Decatur all the time, and chances are, you will, too.

If you’re looking for a studio Decatur apartment, you can expect to pay around $450-$600 depending on how close you are to downtown. A one bedroom Decatur apartment will go for a bit more, usually around $600-$800 in most areas, with some as high as $850 or $900. A two bedroom place will likely cost $950-$1200 and a larger unit with all of the extras you could want will go for $1200 or more.
