When most folks think about moving to sunny and beautiful Florida, they don’t consider living in the panhandle. It is a shame, because some of Florida’s most beautiful land, like the state capital Tallahassee, is found in the northern part of the state. Founded in 1823, Tallahassee was chosen to be the state capital of Florida because it was simply easier to get to than the two other largest cities in the state at that time, St. Augustine and Pensacola. As Florida turned from a Indian infested wilderness into a tropical paradise, Tallahassee remained the state capital and during the Civil War, it was the only confederate capital that was located east of the Mississippi that was not invaded and taken over by Union soldiers. Today, Tallahassee is known more for being the home of Florida State University than for being the state capital. The current population is just over 100,000. A Tallahassee apartment is a great way to get to know this beautiful town.

While you don’t have to be a college sports fan to live in Tallahassee, it sure helps if you are one. The home football games for the Florida State Seminoles are a sight to behold. Pretty much the entire town shuts down on fall Saturdays as both students and residents cheer on the home team. Florida State is one of the largest and most respected schools in the state and the athletic department fields teams year round so there is always something going on in Tallahassee. There is also an accomplished arts program at Florida State so there is often live theatre, arts exhibitions and live music in Tallahassee thanks to the university.

While some may say that the presence of the school is the best part about Tallahassee, the location of the city is truly the most remarkable thing here. It is a short drive to the west to Pensacola and the beautiful gulf beaches and also a short drive east to Jacksonville and the beautiful Atlantic beaches. A quick drive south and you have Orlando, Tampa and even Miami. And if you want to head north, Atlanta is less than an afternoons drive away. The land immediately surrounding Tallahassee is rural, but you have many cities only a few hours away.

If you are interested in renting a studio Tallahassee apartment, you can expect to pay $360-$500 a month in rent. A larger one bedroom Tallahassee apartment will cost you $550-$700 a month. A two bedroom Tallahassee apartment will generally go for $700-$950, while a three bedroom or larger Tallahassee apartment will cost you $1000 or more per month.
