Tucked away in the beautiful Tampa Bay area, the city of Sarasota is like a forgotten younger sister to the better known cities of Tampa and St. Pete. But Sarasota is one of the most beautiful spots on the map, both in Florida and in the United States. Incorporated in 1902, the town of Sarasota was a small town for many, many years that relied on fishing and citrus, much like the rest of Florida. It wasn’t until the 1950’s that the Tampa Bay area began to explode in population, with Sarasota following suit. Today, Sarasota is one of the most beautiful cities in Florida and a wonderful place to live. A Sarasota apartment is a great way to set up a home base and set out to explore this wonderful town.
There are many sights to see in Sarasota, but the beaches here are at the top of the list. Unlike the Atlantic side of Florida that can feature hard packed sand beaches and cooler water temperatures, the sandy beaches on the gulf sand are said to resemble “sugar sand,” meaning that the sand is soft and gentle to the touch. The water on the gulf side is also almost always warmer and calmer, too. Several beaches in the Tampa Bay area are routinely rated at or near the top. Sarasota is also an interesting mix of older and younger folks that call this town home. There is a large retiree community in Sarasota, as there is in every Florida city, but there is also a good number of young people who infuse this area with a vitality and an energy that is fun to experience.
Easily the best thing about living in Sarasota is the beautiful Florida sunshine. While some parts of the state tend to be hit by thunderstorms every day during the summer, Sarasota often just skirts by with most of the storms forming just to the north. Fall, winter and springs temperatures in Sarasota are close to perfect, although things can get a little warm in the summertime. Overall, Sarasota has a close to perfect climate.
If you are interested in a studio Sarasota apartment, you might expect to pay around $600-$750 per month. If you are in need of a one bedroom Sarasota apartment, you can expect to pay $750-$900 per month in rent. A larger two bedroom Sarasota apartment will cost you $900-$1100, while a super sized three bedroom or larger Sarasota apartment will cost $1200 to start with no real limit. The cost of living in Sarasota is slightly less than if you lived directly in the heart of the Tampa-St. Pete area. |
