Gainesville - A Great Place to Live
Located in north central Florida, Gainesville is the largest city and county seat of Alachua County. It has a population 117,182. Gainesville’s original inhabitants were the Timucua Indians. It was formed in 1854 alongside the Florida Railroad Company’s line that eventually went from New Orleans to New York. The city is name after General Edmund P. Gaines, a commander of the U.S. Army during the Second Seminole War.
