Located just to the south of both beautiful San Francisco and Oakland is the technology town of San Jose. Originally, San Jose was nothing more than a footnote in the Bay Area, but once technology firms from all over the country and more than a few that started right in the area, began calling San Jose home, the city sprung up like a weed and is now considered to be equally as prestigious an address to have as San Francisco. Luckily, the cost of living here is a bit lower than it is right in the Bay Area, but it is still far above average for the country. Founded in 1777, San Jose was little more than a farming and fishing town until the computer revolution put it smack dab in the middle of Silicon Valley. Today, San Jose is the third largest city in California and a top ten city in the US.

When you live on the tip of the California Bay Area, the list of things to do and see are numerous. You have all of San Francisco, with the Bay Bridge, the amazing sky line and Fisherman’s Wharf all ready for you to explore. You also have all of California’s beautiful wine country right outside your door. But the city of San Jose has plenty of amazing sights, too. One of the neatest parts of downtown is that all the buildings there must be kept below a certain height due to the fact that the downtown area is in the flight path of a local airport. Other downtown sections of cities are the same way, such as Orlando. San Jose is also a city that takes art very seriously. They have a revolving schedule of public art exhibits on display throughout the year.

For most folks, the best part of San Jose is the location. Not only do you have the entire Bay Area at your fingertips, but you aren’t that far away from Southern California and sights like Los Angeles and San Diego. From San Jose, pretty much every interesting part of the state is only a short drive away, and you get away with paying less to live there, too! San Jose is really a win-win situation for everyone!

If you are in the market for a studio San Jose apartment, you can expect prices to start at $750 and go as high as $1500. A one bedroom San Jose apartment will start at $850 or $900 with no real limit since property here is worth so much. There are one bedroom San Jose apartments that cost $5000 a month, easily here. A two bedroom San Jose apartment will go for $1100 and a three bedroom or larger San Jose apartment will begin at $1400.
