If you could take a nation wide poll and see what the single most desirable spot in the country to live in is, you would probably find out that the San Francisco Bay area is close to the top. But finding affordable housing in this area can seem impossible. That’s why communities like Concord, California have gotten so popular. Located in the East Bay area, just to the east of both Oakland and San Francisco, Concord still isn’t a cheap place to call home, but when you compare the price of a Concord apartment next to a San Francisco apartment, you can save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars per year on rent. Founded in 1869 and incorporated in 1905, making it one of the youngest communities in the country. Today, Concord is not only a bedroom community but also a unique and inviting city in its own right.
The biggest tourist attraction in Concord is its location. The city is nestled just north of the bay area, right on the doorstep of California wine country. Millions of tourists from all over the world visit this area throughout the year and some have begun staying near Concord to save on hotel rates and on gas. The cost of living in the Concord area is a bit higher than the national average, so you had better be prepared before you show up with a U-Haul, but once you see Concord with your own two eyes, you’ll understand why people pay what they do to live here. It’s genuinely that nice.
Picking one thing that makes Concord special is impossible, but for many, it is the ultra liberal attitudes here. The entire Bay area has a large gay and lesbian population, as well as a good number of leftover hippies from the 1960’s. This has led to a real, “live and let live” attitude here that permeates all aspects of society. Office jobs in the Bay area are more likely to have casual Fridays every day and are also more likely to pay higher wages. For those folks looking for more conservative values, you might want to choose a different part of the country, but for those with an open mind, Concord is a great place to call home.
If you’re looking for a small studio Concord apartment, you can expect to pay around $900 a month. If you need the extra space of a one bedroom Concord apartment, you will probably be paying $1000-$1200. A two bedroom Concord apartment will run you $1400-$1600, while a larger, executive sized Concord apartment will run at least $1800 with no real limit.
