Located to the south east of Phoenix, the city of Tucson is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful spots in the country. The city is actually closer to the Mexican border (only 60 miles) than it is to Phoenix, and it is home to the University of Arizona, one of the largest state schools in the country. Founded by missionaries around the year 1700, Tucson was actually Mexican property for many years until the United States took it over in 1853. The warm weather during the summer, spring and fall gives way to cool winter nights. You might even get a brief sprinkle of snow during the winter, but it will only last an hour or two.
